Microsoft unveils three 720p webcams

Microsoft has just revealed a trio of LifeCam series webcams that can capture 720p video and feature the new TrueColor Technology which automatically adjusts picture quality depending on ambient lighting.

"Color quality and brightness are critical aspects of video calls. Through our research we know that a large number of video calls are held in either low light conditions or uneven lighting, and these are challenging situations for any webcam and represent a common pain point for webcam users," said Daniel Anguiano, product marketing manager for Microsoft Hardware. "Our engineers at Microsoft Hardware created TrueColor Technology to improve the video experience, combining software and firmware to help people look bright and natural in virtually any lighting situation."

The LifeCam HD-5000, HD-5001 and HD-6000 feature an Auto Focus function, can make 4.0 megapixel stills, and include Windows Live Movie Maker integration which enables people to start a movie project with one click and then upload the videos to YouTube and other sharing sites. The notebook-oriented HD-6000 also has a design which allows for 180-degree rotation in both directions.

The LifeCam HD-5000 and HD-5001 will start selling later this month for $49.95, while the HD-6000 model will debut in May @ $59.95.
