Microsoft's Project Pink materializes in KIN line of social phones
Following months and month of rumors, Microsoft has today finally taken the veil off the first products to come out of the infamous Project Pink, the KIN series of social-oriented mobile phones. Made by Sharp, the first two KIN models are called KIN One and KIN Two (very original naming scheme as you can see) and both feature QWERTY keyboards that enable faster typing but also boast touchscreen to stay 'in trend'.
KIN One boasts a 5 megapixel camera (SD video shooting), 4GB of built-in storage, and a mono speaker, while KIN Two features an 8MP HD-capable camera, 8GB of memory and stereo speakers. Both models include LumiLED flash and image stabilization for the camera.
KIN phones come with an interface focused on the user's connections and content, with a home screen called Loop, which is always up to date, showing all the things happening in the social world. To ensure easy access to the individual's network, KIN rounds up feeds from Microsoft and third-party services such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, providing status updates, messages, feeds and photos from friends and family. Another feature included is the KIN Spot which lets users quickly share messages, videos, web pages, location and status updates.
Another fresh thing accompanying Microsoft's phones is the KIN Studio, a cloud computing service that automatically backs up texts, call history, photos, videos and contacts, and thus helping free up the built-in storage. Content added to KIN Studio can be accessed via web browser so you'll also be able to check it out almost whenever and from whatever device.
According to Microsoft, the KIN phones will be offered in the US by Verizon Wireless as of May, and will reach the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain via Vodafone this autumn.
