It would appear that Avatar is poised to dominate the awards show season in much the same way that Titanic did in 1997. James Cameron's science fiction thriller is on its way to box office history, already claiming 1.6 billion in box office sales worldwide, second only to Titanic's 1.8 billion.

"Avatar asks us to see that everything is connected, all human beings to each other, and us to the Earth. And if you have to go four and a half light years to another, made-up planet to appreciate this miracle of the world that we have right here, well, you know what, that's the wonder of cinema right there, that's the magic," Cameron said.

The technological innovations that accompanied Avatar are already generating significant buzz about the dawn of a new era in film-making. It remains to be seen how effectively other film-makers whose skills may not be on the level of a James Cameron can leverage such technology in making their own films.

The Hangover continued to receive praise uncommon for a slapstick and generally sophomoric comedy about a Vegas bachelor party that goes awry. The emergence of Zach Galifinakis as a comedy force is likely to propel the Hangover into a series of questionable sequels, none of which will likely garner the success or the star power of the first.

In his new avatar form, Jake can once again walk. His mission is to interact with and infiltrate the Na’vi with the hope of enlisting their help – or at least their acquiescence -- in mining the ore. A beautiful Na’vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake’s life – reluctantly – because even in his avatar body, Jake represents to her the human encroachment on the Na’vi’s unspoiled world.

As Jake’s relationship with Neytiri deepens, along with his respect for the Na’vi, he faces the ultimate test as he leads an epic conflict that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.
